Texas Physicians, the Texas Medical Board posted online guidance on the scheduling of elective surgeries and procedures during the COVID-19 disaster response. This guidance was developed with input from the Office of the Governor.
To view the guidance document and FAQs, please visit the TMB’s webpage: http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/page/coronavirus.
In summary, TMB’s guidance follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and supporting guidelines from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) which calls for postponement of all non-urgent elective surgeries and procedures in inpatient and outpatient settings. TMB’s guidance is for the postponement of non-urgent elective surgeries and procedures until the end of the Governor’s Disaster Declaration or until the CDC guidelines change, whichever is earlier.
